VNF’s actions enable the management of water resources more effectively and reconcile their diverse uses in the public interest. The network is structured and organized throughout France, with dedicated personnel who is committed to rigorous infrastructure management, resource efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
VNF has established a ten-year roadmap, and a Performance and Objective Contract signed with the State, which outlines six commitments. At the three-year mark, VNF will provide an initial assessment of progress.

In 2022, 30% of freight activity was driven by the agricultural sector, showcasing the significant role of inland waterway transport. This year marked as well a record-breaking year for container traffic, with 605,500 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) handled.
