The 40th session of the UNECE ADN Safety Committee was held in Geneva at the premises of the Palace of the League of Nations from 22-26 August 2022. The common goal of the Committee is to continuously review the ADN regulations to determine whether they are in line with current safety standards and can be implemented in practice, and whether they need to be amended or supplemented.

The European umbrella organizations of inland navigation, EBU and ESO, are allowed to submit proposals and make statements on proposals. BDB speaker Elena Siebrecht represented the EBU in this meeting. Among others, topics around degassing of inland vessels, opening of openings, questions from the expert training, non-measurable substances and the transport of carbon dioxide were discussed. The next meeting is expected to take place in the last week of January 2023.
