Many cities and urban agglomerations are situated along the shore or on large rivers. City officials are increasingly exploring for ways to employ non-road modes for part of the products transportation to, from, and perhaps inside cities. Cities with access to ports and interior waterways offer a variety of options. Using inland canal transportation to convey commodities in densely populated regions can help to minimize traffic congestion and pollution. Water usage for urban freight, on the other hand, has not yet reached a significant level.

This workshop, presented by POLIS and co-organized by CIRCOE, MULTITEL, and other ST4W partners, is mainly oriented towards cities and administrations interested in learning about and sharing accomplishments and problems, as well as devising strategies to better link urban multimodal logistics.
