A key element of the digitalization of logistics and transportation infrastructure may be autonomous shipping. The effects of evolving legislation and technology will be felt throughout the entire value chain.

The deliverable summarizes the findings of cost-benefit assessments performed as part of the AUTOSHIP project on two use cases: short sea shipping (SSS) and inland waterway transport  (IWT).

The findings also shed light on how stronger business cases and societal advantages might be used to justify the necessary expenditure, which will be funded by both infrastructure owners and ship owners. The logistics model will change as a result of adopting autonomous technology and creating ships that are completely coordinated with clean powertrains and ecologically friendly designs, supporting the argument for investment.
