On December 8, 2022, the Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR) and the Moselle Commission (MC) adopted their new cooperation arrangement. The Moselle Commission adopted the text at its plenary meeting on November 30, 2022. Mr Philippe Voiry, president of the MC, signed the new arrangement on behalf of the Moselle Commission. The final step was taken in Strasbourg with the signing by the Secretary General of the CCNR, Ms Lucia Luijten.

The two organizations have worked closely together for many years on the basis of trust: the previous arrangements date from 2008 and 2014.

This arrangement aims to strengthen cooperation in the following areas:

  • the economic monitoring of inland navigation,
  • the regulatory work, especially with regard to the shipping regulations,
  • the implementation of the River Information Services (RIS) on the Rhine and Moselle.

The two international organizations further intend to continue close consultations with a view to the promotion and development of inland navigation in Europe.
